"You are members of God's family. We are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We who believe are carefully joined together, becoming a holy temple for the Lord" (Ephesians 2:20-21).
We all need a home. Perhaps the Door will be your home? We've seen three general steps in this journey home. Each of us will spend different lengths of time in these three steps. There is no rush or pressure because there is a place for everyone at The Door.
As you read the steps in the journey home, consider where you are at and where you are headed.
Step 1: This Could Be Home - Connect
- Come weekly to the Sunday service. Coffee is ready by 10 AM. Come early and stay late.
- Take initiative to get to know others.
Step 2: I Found My Home - Involvement
- Check out the calendar to see what's happening - get involved.
- Directory Update: By giving your information for The Door directory you are stating that The Door is your home church. The directory update happens every 6 months - it has names and contact info so you can be included in church wide emails, mailings, and a regional team. Regional teams gather at least twice a year for a casual time of connecting with others from The Door who live in your region.
- Joining the Family: In conjunction with the directory update is an informative meeting that will share the heart and structure of The Door to help you as you evaluate if The Door will be your church home.
Step 3: I'm Staying Home - Commitment
- Having a home and staying there takes commitment. Making a commitment of any kind is not a hasty act, especially when it involves church. This is an important decision in the life of an individual or family because this is a deeper expression of setting your roots into this church home.
- The foundation of being able to keep this commitment is surrendering your life to Jesus Christ. In addition, we ask that you attend a Joining the Family class before making this commitment.
- COMMITMENT FORM: Commitment to being church (1 Peter 2:1-5), to protecting church (Colossians 4:12-17), and growing church (Matthew 28:18-20). When the directory is updated, there is also opportunity to express this commitment by attending Joining the Family, getting a copy of the statement of commitment, and prayerfully reading and completing it.
